The Israeli army announced today that it has resumed its combat operations in the Gaza Strip, Reuters reported, citing an official statement from the Israel Defense Forces to eliminate suspects in the enclave, BTA reports.
The eliminated subjects were "seen planting an explosive device in the northern part of the Gaza Strip", the army statement said. The Israeli air force struck the suspects in order to eliminate the threat," the statement, quoted by AFP, said.
Earlier today, Reuters reported, citing health workers in the Gaza Strip, that four people had been killed in Israeli shelling.
Earlier, the Palestinian Civil Defense Service in the Gaza Strip reported Israeli shelling today from artillery and tanks in the area of the city of Khan Yunis, in the southern part of the enclave, AFP reported.
"Artillery shelling and tank volleys were directed at Abadan al-Kabira, east of Khan Yunis," the Gaza Civil Defense said in a brief statement, quoted by AFP.
The 42-day first phase of the ceasefire agreement in the Strip expired tonight Gaza between Israel and the radical Palestinian group "Hamas".
Israel stopped humanitarian aid access to the coastal territory early this morning and warned that "there will be further consequences".
