Dmitry Medvedev: The deep state in Romania has buried democracy in the country - 1

The Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev called the non-admission of Calin Georgescu to the elections in Romania a “burial of democracy“ by the deep state, reports the TASS agency, BTA reports.

“In Romania, the deep state has buried democracy. What should the people do with such power? (…) The current Romanian rulers are much better than Nicolae Ceausescu. They are good and fair“, Medvedev wrote ironically on his page on the social network “Ex“ in English.

Romania's Central Electoral Bureau rejected Georgescu's candidacy for the presidential election in May. He appealed the decision, and the Constitutional Court will hear the appeal tomorrow.

The far-right politician, who surprisingly won the first round of last year's annulled presidential election, has been accused of having pro-Russian sentiments. Georgescu himself rejects such a characterization. Moscow has also said it has nothing to do with the candidate and is not interfering in Romania's electoral process.
