Russia agrees with the proposals to end the hostilities, but they must lead to long-term peace and eliminate the root causes of the Ukrainian crisis, TASS reported the words of Russian President Vladimir Putin from a press conference after talks with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, BTA reports.
The Russian president thanked Donald Trump for his efforts to end the war between Russia and Ukraine and added that Moscow needs to talk to Washington about the details, Reuters reported.
Putin and Lukashenko said in a joint statement after their talks that NATO's actions in the context of the conflict in Ukraine are fraught with the risk of nuclear conflict.
Moscow and Minsk condemned in their statement the European Union's policy towards Russia, calling it aggressive and confrontational.
Putin said on Monday that Western companies were welcome to return to Russia and said Moscow was holding closed-door talks to facilitate the return of some of them, Reuters reported.
"To those who want to return, we say: Welcome, welcome at any time," Putin said at a news conference after talks with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko.
