Donald Trump: If Putin rejects the offer, it will be a very disappointing moment for the world - 1

US President Donald Trump said today that Russian President Vladimir Putin made a "very promising" statement on the ceasefire in Ukraine, but it was "incomplete", reported Agence France-Presse, quoted by BTA.

The Russian president said that his country is "in favor" of a ceasefire, but mentioned "important issues that need to be resolved" before an agreement is reached.

Putin's statement came after the United States and Ukraine drew up a proposal for a 30-day ceasefire during talks in Saudi Arabia this week.

According to the US president, if Moscow rejects the proposal, "it would be a very disappointing moment for the world".

"I would like to meet with him or talk to him, but the issue of a ceasefire has to be resolved quickly," Trump said of his Russian counterpart Putin.

Donald Trump, whose special envoy Steve Witkoff arrived in Russia today, added that the Americans' talks with Ukraine were about "the pieces of territory that will be kept and lost, as well as all the other elements of the final peace agreement".

"It's also about a power plant, a very large power plant - who will "who gets it and who gets this or that," the US president explained during his meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte at the White House today.

He did not specify which power plant he was talking about. The Zaporozhye nuclear power plant in southern Ukraine, the largest in Europe, was seized by Russia in the first weeks after Russia's invasion of Ukraine, AFP recalls.

"A lot of the details of the final agreement were actually discussed", the US president said, adding that "the first phase is a ceasefire".

During his visit to the White House, NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte said that alliance countries need to produce more weapons.

NATO is lagging behind Russia and China in terms of weapons production, Rutte said during his meeting with Trump.

US President Donald Trump also said that the annexation of Greenland by the US will eventually "happen", which he said would promote "international security".

"I think this will happen. We need this for international security," he said.

"I don't want to drag NATO into this", said Mark Rutte, but still acknowledged that Trump was "absolutely right" to raise the issue of security in the Arctic and the High North.

"The Chinese are already using these routes. We know that the Russians are rearming. That is why it is very important that the seven Arctic countries, excluding Russia, work together on this issue under the auspices of the United States to ensure the security of this region," the NATO Secretary General added.
