A mass grave in the courtyard of Al-Shifa hospital is being cleared in Gaza City. Emergency services and volunteers have managed to remove 48 bodies out of 180, Qatari television channel Al Jazeera reported, citing the local civil defense department.
According to the media, the courtyard of Al-Shifa hospital was left strewn with garbage, debris and rubble after Israeli shelling and bombing. Residents of the city are clearing the rubble "with ordinary shovels and bare hands", exhuming dozens of bodies of those killed during the Israeli shelling of Gaza City in order to find and bury the bodies of their relatives according to tradition.
It is noted that 38 of the 48 bodies found have already been identified and transported for burial, while another 10 are awaiting identification. In total, according to the Civil Defense Department, since the escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict in October 2023, about 180 people have been buried in the hospital yard.
