British Prime Minister Keir Starmer told a group of world leaders today that they need to keep up the pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin to support a ceasefire in Ukraine, the Associated Press reports, BTA reports.
At the beginning of the virtual meeting of the "coalition of the willing", Starmer stressed that sooner or later Putin "will have to sit at the table". He told about 25 world leaders that their countries must be ready to protect a peace agreement for Ukraine, according to Reuters.
"If Putin is serious about peace, everything is very simple – "he must stop his barbaric attacks on Ukraine and agree to a ceasefire," the British prime minister told heads of state from Europe, Australia, Canada and New Zealand.
"The pressure must continue and we must prepare for peace - a peace that will be secure and lasting," Starmer added.
The meeting is expected to discuss how their countries can help Ukraine with military and financial resources, as well as consider support for a possible future peacekeeping mission.
