Russian troops have regained control of two more villages, Rubanshchyna and Zaoleshenka, in the western Kursk region, the Defense Ministry said, quoted by Reuters, BTA reports.
Russia has stepped up efforts to push Ukrainian forces out of Kursk region, where they have established control over about 100 settlements since a surprise incursion into Russian territory last August.
After the liberation of Rubanshchyna, Ukrainian troops in Kursk region are blocked, Russian security forces told TASS. The village is located west of the town of Sudzha, near the Sudzha-Yunakovka road, which is used for logistical needs by the Ukrainian army. The remnants of the defeated units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces were located in Rubanshchina.
"This settlement is located in close proximity to the Sudzha-Yunakovka road, along which some groups of the Ukrainian Armed Forces were still trying to break through to the Sumy region. Now the retreat is blocked not only by fire, but also physically, and there is no way for the enemy to escape", the sources told the agency.
