British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said today that European countries and Western allies are ready to increase their support for Ukraine, even in the event of a peace deal with Russia. Military representatives are expected to specify "credible plans" in this direction next week, Reuters reported, BTA reports.
After holding a virtual conversation with about 25 leaders, including those of Germany, France, Italy, Canada and Australia, as well as with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and the NATO Secretary General, Starmer said that the so-called "coalition of the willing" has reaffirmed its commitment to Ukraine's security.
"We agreed that we will continue to increase pressure on Russia, we will continue to provide military assistance to Ukraine and we will continue to tighten restrictions on the Russian economy in order to weaken Putin's war machine and bring him to the negotiating table," Starmer told reporters after the meeting.
"Our military representatives will meet on Thursday, March 20, in the UK to discuss strong and credible plans to back up the peace agreement and ensure the future security of Ukraine," he added.
"President Trump has offered Putin a way forward to lasting peace. Now we must make it a reality," the British prime minister concluded.
