At least six people have died after a plane crashed into the sea shortly after takeoff from an airport on the island of Roatan in western Honduras.
This was reported by the newspaper La Prensa, citing the governor of the Islas de la Bahía department, Hugo Varela.
The plane, owned by Lanhsa Airlines, crashed into the sea shortly after takeoff from Juan Manuel Gálvez Airport on the island of Roatan. According to preliminary data, there were at least 15 people on board, six of whom died.

The plane was reportedly headed for the city of La Ceiba. The publication, citing the national police of the republic, reported that "the accident occurred when the Jetstream 41 plane, designed for 33 passengers, suffered mechanical failure during takeoff". The plane crashed into the sea about a kilometer from the runway.
