North Korea: US carried out indiscriminate attacks - 1

North Korea condemned recent US airstrikes in Yemen as an act that violated international law and the country's sovereignty, and said such a move could never be justified in any way, Reuters reported, citing the North Korean ambassador to Yemen, the KCNA news agency.

The large-scale US strikes were launched last week by the administration of President Donald Trump and were aimed at Yemen's Iran-aligned Houthi rebels over the Shiite armed group's attacks on ships in the Red Sea. The Houthi-led health ministry earlier said at least 53 people, including women and children, were killed in the US strikes.

North Korean Ambassador Ma Dong Hui, who according to the KCNA is also Pyongyang's envoy to Egypt, said Washington had carried out "indiscriminate" attacks on civilians and civilian property, mobilizing air and naval forces, including an aircraft carrier.

"The military attack by the United States is a gross violation of the UN Charter and international law and constitutes a gross violation of the territorial sovereignty of another state, which cannot be justified by any means", he stressed.

"I express serious concern about the illegal and reckless military actions of the United States, which are obsessed with the realization of geopolitical ambitions... and I categorically condemn and reject them", the DPRK ambassador added.

Yesterday, the Pentagon reported that in the first wave of strikes in the ongoing campaign in Yemen, more than 30 sites were attacked, including training camps and senior Houthi experts in the field of drones. The attacks used fighter jets launched from an aircraft carrier in the Red Sea.

Meanwhile, earlier today, acting US ambassador to South Korea Joseph Yun said that Trump had never said a bad word about North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and would probably start communicating with him sooner or later, Reuters reported.
