A significant number of Russian troops, who participated in the operation in the Russian Kursk region, are beginning to move towards the border with Ukraine in its part with the Ukrainian Sumy region, Ukrinform reported, citing Colonel Vadim Misnik, spokesman for the operational tactical group "Siversk" of the Ukrainian army, BTA reports.
“We had already noticed an enemy military presence along the entire length of the border, but we had not detected large military formations preparing for offensive operations. However, since the situation in the Kursk region has changed, the enemy has been concentrating significant forces there, moving them closer and closer to the state border“, Misnik explained. He stressed that the task of the Ukrainian forces is to strengthen the defensive lines and continue the fighting both in the adjacent area and along the border.
“The situation on the northern front remains stable. Ukrainian forces in the Kursk region repelled 20 enemy attacks, while the enemy also attacked with 17 glide bombs from the air“, he added.
“The operational situation has not changed significantly. The enemy is shelling the border areas along the entire border daily, using almost its entire arsenal. It should be noted that it is very actively attacking with FPV drones, ammunition from armed unmanned aerial vehicles, mortars and artillery guns“, Misnik also said. He noted that the largest concentration of enemy forces and equipment is observed on the border with Sumy region.
The spokesman added that there is still a threat of penetration by enemy sabotage and reconnaissance groups, but the Ukrainian defense forces are controlling the situation. Misnik pointed out that Russian troops are operating mainly on the flanks, where there is a concentration of forces. However, the Ukrainian defense forces are striving to detect enemy units and eliminate them in a timely manner.
“We are capable of detecting them and eliminating them immediately. We have sufficient reserves of people and equipment to thwart any sabotage operations“, he said. Misnik also noted that Russian forces have not entered the Chernihiv region for some time, although the threat of such an advance remains.
The spokesman confirmed that the number of Ukrainian mobile fire groups along the northern borders of Chernihiv and Sumy regions has been increased. These groups are tasked with destroying enemy drones, which have been increasing in number recently.
“We are now shooting down more than ten powerful attack drones per day. Several more are losing their way thanks to our electronic warfare assets. We know that this direction is strategic for the enemy, with attack drones being sent simultaneously from the Kursk and Bryansk regions,“ Misnik added. He assured that Ukrainian forces continue to work in the region and are seeking to increase the protection of the population and infrastructure from these attacks.
Meanwhile, TASS reported that volunteers have carried away the body of a pregnant woman, Nina Kuznetsova, from the suburb of Sudzha Goncharovka in the Kursk region. She was shot by Ukrainian servicemen during an evacuation attempt in August last year.
