The 35th President of the United States, John F. Kennedy, was assassinated in Dallas on November 22, 1963, during a campaign trip to Texas. An official commission formed to investigate the crime concluded that the assassination was the work of Lee Harvey Oswald, who acted alone and that there was no widespread conspiracy. The shot, according to the commission's conclusion, was fired from the sixth floor of a textbook warehouse located on the central square of Dallas. A rifle with a telescopic sight and spent cartridges were found there.
To date, according to the US National Archives and Records Administration, 99% of the approximately 5 million pages of archives dedicated to the Kennedy assassination have been declassified.
