The Serbian government, which was elected on May 2, 2024. , officially resigned after the Serbian parliament (National Assembly) confirmed it at its plenary session today, BTA reported.

Prime Minister Miloš Vučević resigned from his post on January 28 due to an attack with baseball bats on a group of protesting students in Novi Sad in front of the office of the ruling Serbian Progressive Party.

The Speaker of the National Assembly, Ana Brnabić, thanked Vučević for the “honest and honest performance of his work“, as well as for his “responsible and courageous behavior“, Serbian media wrote.

According to the Serbian constitution, after the Prime Minister's resignation is confirmed, a 30-day period for electing a new government begins.

If a new cabinet is not elected within this period, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić is is obliged to schedule early parliamentary elections, the texts of the basic Serbian law state.

"If a government is not formed, there will be new elections, which will most likely be held on June 8", said President Aleksandar Vučić two days ago and stressed that he will conduct negotiations with all political parties, but the most important will be with the ruling Serbian Progressive Party.

The chairman of the Serbian Progressive Party is Miloš Vučević, and its founder is Aleksandar Vučić.
