The new composition of the German Bundestag will meet for the first time today, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.
The new deputies, who were elected in the parliamentary elections on February 23, are expected to elect a Bundestag speaker.
Traditionally, the speaker of the lower house of the German parliament becomes the representative of the largest parliamentary group, which in the current composition of the parliament is that of the Christian Democratic Union and its sister party from the state of Bavaria, the Christian Social Union.
The president of the Bundestag is the second most important in the German state hierarchy after the federal president, which means that by protocol he is above the chancellor and the speaker of the upper house of parliament.
