New nuclear deal? Tehran in no rush to close all channels for talks with Trump - 1

Iran has not closed all doors to resolving its differences with the United States over the nuclear deal. The country is ready for indirect talks, Kamal Kharazmi, an adviser to Iran's supreme leader, was quoted by Reuters as saying.

Tehran has rejected US President Donald Trump's warning to make a deal or face military consequences. Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said negotiations were impossible unless Washington changed its policy of "maximum pressure".

Kamal Kharrazi said the Islamic Republic was ready for indirect talks with the United States to assess the other side, state its own conditions and make the appropriate decision.

During his first term, Trump withdrew the United States from the 2015 deal with Iran and world powers that imposed strict restrictions on Tehran's disputed nuclear activities in exchange for sanctions relief. After Trump withdrew in 2018 and reimposed sweeping U.S. sanctions, the Islamic Republic has violated those restrictions through its uranium enrichment program.

Western powers accuse Iran of having a secret program to develop nuclear weapons by enriching uranium to a high level. Tehran says its nuclear program is entirely for peaceful purposes.
