Russia is preparing a new offensive in the Sumy and Kharkiv regions this spring. This was stated by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in an interview with Le Figaro
Zelensky points out that Russian President Vladimir Putin is trying to buy time to prepare for an offensive this spring.
"I can confirm that Putin is trying to buy time and is preparing for a spring offensive. We see preparations for this upcoming operation“, Zelensky commented.
The President of Ukraine emphasizes that Ukrainian intelligence services have shared intelligence information with their Western allies.
"We must look at the situation with wide eyes. Putin is preparing a new offensive, in particular in the Sumy and Kharkiv regions,“ he said.
According to him, Putin wanted to launch this operation eight months ago, but was unable to do so because of the operation in Kursk.
On March 18, the spokesman for the Seversky Operational-Tactical Group of Forces Vadim Misnik said that a significant number of Russian units that had previously participated in the Kursk region were actively moving towards the border near the Sumy region.
On March 20, Zelensky said that Russia was massing troops in the direction of the Sumy region in an attempt to push the Armed Forces of Ukraine out of the Kursk region. However, the Ukrainian military “unexpectedly took steps in the other direction“.
On March 24, Demchenko reported that Russian sabotage reconnaissance groups were trying to expand the “penetration” zone in the Sumy region and transfer the fighting from the Kursk region to the territory of Ukraine.
