Kiev's European allies are considering investing in arms production in Ukraine as an alternative to arms supplies due to the possible end of military aid from the United States, the Washington Post (WP) reported, citing a European official.
According to him, more and more European countries are ready to give preference to investments in Ukraine's military industry rather than arms supplies, as the European countries' own reserves have been depleted as a result of long-term aid to Kiev. In addition, as WP writes, the stockpiles of American weapons transferred by the previous Washington administration are running out, and Europe doubts whether it will be able to fully compensate for US aid if Washington refuses to provide military support to Ukraine.
The official noted that in this case, European NATO member states would be able to use Ukraine as a “testing ground“ for developing weapons such as drones, in the production of which Europe has no experience.
US President Donald Trump earlier did not specify whether he intended to stop providing military aid to Ukraine if peace talks failed. At the same time, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that after three years of supporting Ukraine and spending billions of dollars, the US had reached a point where it needed to focus on other tasks.
