Iran's permanent representative to the UN Amir Saeed Iravani called on Iran's Security Council to condemn US President Donald Trump's threats against Tehran as a violation of international law.
„The US president has systematically ignored and violated the international norms and principles on which the UN is based since he took office in January 2025. His constant threats to use force against independent states set a dangerous precedent in international relations,” the diplomat said in a letter sent to the UN Security Council.
“It is particularly worrying that the US, as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, openly disregards its obligations under the UN Charter, using military force as a tool of coercion to achieve political and geopolitical goals. In light of these serious violations, the Islamic Republic of Iran calls on the UN Security Council to fulfill its responsibility to maintain international peace and security, unequivocally condemn the US President’s threats as a violation of international law and the UN Charter, and demand that the US comply with its international legal obligations“.
