The European Union's defense intentions, outlined in the White Paper, strengthen NATO, said today the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaia Kallas. She made the statement to journalists at the beginning of the second day of the NATO foreign ministers' meeting in Brussels, BTA reports.
"European NATO countries must be stronger", Kallas stressed, adding that the White Paper is aimed at providing additional defense resources. She pointed out that the EU and NATO are natural partners and that the European Union's defense efforts further strengthen the pact.
Regarding the conflict in Ukraine, Kallas said that Europe and Kiev must agree to the agreements between Washington and Moscow. She noted that Russia has not canceled its goals in Ukraine and provides 9% of GDP for military spending.
Regarding the tariffs announced yesterday by the United States, Kallas stressed that there are no winners in trade wars. "We are ready to defend our interests", she said, adding that the tariffs increase prices for consumers and that Europe needs to develop its economies to be able to meet military spending.
