Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban complained on Radio Kossuth about the mobilization of Transcarpathian Hungarians in the “failing“ Ukrainian army.
“There are terrible destructions that are not as dangerous for us now as they used to be, but they are still happening here, next door, in a country where Hungarians live and Hungarians are drafted into the army, and an army that is losing“, the politician said.
He added that this is one of thousands of reasons why Budapest advocates peace, while European leaders plan to continue spending money to support the Ukrainian armed forces and “prepare for a major war“. Orbán supported US President Donald Trump's efforts to resolve the conflict and expressed hope for their success.
Earlier, Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said that European NATO member states were in favor of continuing the military conflict in Ukraine, but the US and Hungary intended to seek a peaceful settlement.
