The administration of US President Donald Trump mistakenly sent letters to Ukrainian citizens who arrived in the country after the outbreak of the Ukrainian conflict, asking them to leave the United States immediately, The Washington Post (WP) reported.
“It is time to leave the United States. The federal government will find you”, the publication quoted an excerpt from the letter. The newspaper wrote that the Ukrainians who arrived in the United States for humanitarian reasons were told that their legal status would expire in seven days and they must leave the country immediately. WP did not specify how many people received such letters.
USA Department of Homeland Security spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin confirmed that the sending was done by mistake. “The letters were sent to some Ukrainians by mistake”, she said, noting that the humanitarian password program for Ukrainian citizens continues to operate.
