Estonia: Hungary should not have the right to vote in the EU, Orban plays for Putin - 1

Hungary should lose its right to vote in the European Union in order to prevent a split in the union, since the current Prime Minister Viktor Orban “plays on the team“ of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

This was stated by Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna in an interview with Rheinische Post.

He recalled that such an opportunity is provided for in Article 7 of the Treaty on the EU; it can be used if one of the members of the association threatens the security of all other countries.

Tsahkna is convinced that this is exactly what is happening in the case of Hungary. According to him, Orban's blocking of EU decisions cannot continue indefinitely, so Hungary's disenfranchisement is getting closer.

If Budapest blocks the extension of anti-Russian sanctions in June, then Europe will face the threat of returning the blocked $240 billion to Moscow. In this case, the diplomat concluded, the EU will have to confiscate these assets.

Earlier, Politico reported that the European Union is not yet considering suspending Hungary's voting rights, as the decision would create many problems. However, the EU Council, after a meeting of the leaders of the association countries on March 20, published a joint statement without Hungary's consent, which, according to sources of the publication, "should become the new norm".
