Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Pichay Chunghwajira will travel to the United States to discuss with US authorities and the private sector the imposition of a 36% US tariff. This was announced by Thai Prime Minister Phetong Than Shinawatra.
„Thailand is facing a tariff increase of up to 36% on Thai products exported to the United States. Many countries are in the same situation. Like Thailand, they are preparing measures to overcome it. This measure has had a significant impact on our exports, especially electronics, processed foods and agricultural products. Next week, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Pichai Chunghwajira will travel to the United States to discuss these changes with the authorities and the private sector,“ the Khaosod newspaper quoted the prime minister as saying.
Shinawatra noted that Thailand is ready to increase imports of energy goods, aircraft and agricultural products from the United States. “Rest assured that all these proposals take into account Thailand's interests. In addition, Thailand will negotiate to promote Thai investment in the United States and reduce import barriers, including combating false information about the origin of products transiting through Thailand to the United States,“ she added, expressing confidence in the success of the negotiations.
