Members of the country's oldest party, founded by Kemal Ataturk, gathered for an extraordinary congress after the arrest of the mayor of Istanbul, BNT reports.
An empty seat was left for Ekrem İmamoğlu, and his candidacy for president of Turkey was reaffirmed today. İmamoğlu's arrest sparked the largest anti-government protests in the country in a decade. Demonstrations were expected today, but tensions did not escalate.
