“Given the growing risks and threats, the Ministry of Defense maintains and develops the necessary capabilities to effectively implement national and allied plans for deterrence and defense. Technological rearmament of all types of armed forces and in all operational domains is underway“. This was said by the Minister of Defense Atanas Zapryanov in his welcome to the participants in a discussion on the topic: “Increasing national resilience: progress, challenges and the way forward”, which is taking place today, April 8, at the Military Academy “G. S. Rakovski“.
“We continue our active contribution to strengthening NATO's deterrent and defense potential and building its forward presence in the Black Sea“, Minister Atanas Zapryanov also emphasized.
In his words - building resilience is a state-wide effort that unites the contribution of state institutions, local government structures, the private sector, academia and civil society. “To this end, we must develop and strengthen, on the one hand, interdepartmental interaction, and on the other, develop a culture of increasingly active cooperation of state institutions with business, the academic community and the civil sector. All this must be implemented in close cooperation with the relevant structures of NATO and the EU, as well as with allied countries“, the Minister of Defense also said.
Minister Zapryanov addressed the participants in the discussion with the words: “Today's initiative is also the first of its kind national symposium on sustainability. Therefore, I welcome the efforts of the Military Academy, which is also our host. I congratulate the co-organizers from the US Institute for Security Management. Bulgaria will increasingly rely on the experience of our ally and strategic partner in defense in this regard. The Secretariat of the Security Council to the Council of Ministers is yet to actively coordinate this inter-institutional and society-wide process, for which it can count on full support from our side“.
The discussion is being held under the patronage of Major General Stayko Prokopiev, Head of the Military Academy “Georgi S. Rakovski“. It is attended by representatives of NATO, ministries and state institutions, higher education institutions, the private sector, etc.
