Israeli PM to visit Trump in Washington for second time - 1

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will visit the White House today for the second time since the start of President Donald Trump's term, DPA reports, BTA reports.

Netanyahu will be the first foreign leader to meet with Trump since the announcement of the new tariffs. He said that he and the US president will discuss not only the tariff issue, but also efforts to free Israeli hostages in Gaza, as well as issues related to Iran and the arrest warrant issued against it by the International Criminal Court.

Although the US is Israel's strategic ally, the country was not excluded from the new tariffs announced last week by Washington. Starting Wednesday, an additional 17% tariff will be imposed on Israeli imports to the United States.

At the same time, Israel has resumed hostilities in the Gaza Strip in order to weaken the influence of the Palestinian group "Hamas" and secure the release of the remaining hostages, after recent attempts to extend the ceasefire failed.

The previous meeting between Netanyahu and Trump, held in February, was perceived as a sign of support for the Israeli prime minister, who is under strong international criticism over the conflict in Gaza. During this visit, Trump stated that he intends for the United States to take control of the devastated enclave. The US president's plan envisages the resettlement of the population of Gaza to Arab countries and the transformation of the territory into the "Riviera of the Middle East," the agency recalls.
