The foreign ministers of the G7 countries expressed on Sunday “deep concern” over China’s recent large-scale military exercises near the island of Taiwan, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.
The foreign ministers of Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the United States – plus the European Union – condemned Beijing’s “provocative actions.”
“These increasingly frequent and destabilizing actions are increasing tensions across the (Taiwan) Strait and endangering global security and prosperity,” the joint statement said, stressing that G7 members and the global community have an interest in preserving peace and stability on both sides of the Taiwan Strait.
“We oppose any unilateral actions that threaten this peace and stability, including through force or coercion,“ the foreign ministers said.
The Chinese armed forces held two days of drills in early April, which China said involved all branches of the military and included precision strike training on simulated key targets.
In addition to regular military exercises, Chinese fighter jets fly through Taiwan's air defense zone almost daily, usually provoking a response from Taiwan's air force.
