US President Donald Trump believes that handing over control of the Gaza Strip to the US would be a positive factor.
„Gaza is one of the most dangerous places on Earth. It would be a good thing for a world power like the US to be there controlling and owning the Gaza Strip, Trump told reporters after his meeting at the White House with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
On February 4, the US president, at a joint press conference with Netanyahu after talks at the White House, said that Washington is considering long-term ownership of the sector to develop it in the interests of peace in the Middle East. Trump spoke in favor of resettling Palestinians from Gaza to other countries in the region. The American leader warned that his country is ready to send troops to the enclave if it deems it necessary.
The Arab countries, Iran and some Western countries have spoken out against Trump's idea.
The United States, together with Israel and Turkey, will be able to reach an agreement on Syria, Trump also said.
“I told the Israeli prime minister that if they have problems with Turkey, I really think I can solve them. I have a very, very good relationship with Turkey and its leader“, he said.
The American president noted that in a conversation with his Turkish counterpart Recep Erdogan, he congratulated him on “taking over Syria“. I told him: “Congratulations, you did something that no one has been able to do in the last 2,000 years. You took over Syria!“. He said: “No, no, no. "It wasn't me." I told him again, "It was you." "Maybe it was me, okay," Trump added, quoting his conversation with the Turkish president.
The US administration will increase military pressure on Yemen's Houthis until they stop attacking American ships, Pentagon chief Pete Hegsett said.
"We're not going to reduce the intensity of the strikes, they're just going to become more relentless until the Houthis say they're going to stop shelling our ships," he said. "We have a lot more options for putting pressure," Hegsett added.
