The Republican People's Party (CHP) Istanbul District Governor Özgür Çelik announced on social media that the party will hold a rally in front of the municipality building in the Istanbul district of Şişli on April 9 at 8:30 p.m. Turkish time, BTA reported.
“Our people defend their will and the presidents they elected fairly. We will be in Şişli together with party chairman Özgür Özel“, Celik said in his address, in which he invited party followers to join the demonstration.
Following the arrest of Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, which sparked thousands of protests across Turkey, the opposition CHP announced that it would hold rallies in different districts of Istanbul every week. In late March, the PKK held its largest rally ever in Maltepe Park on the Asian side of Istanbul.
