US President Donald Trump, who during his election campaign promised to end the war in Ukraine on his first day in office, said today that he has his own deadline for resolving the conflict and that Ukraine and Russia must negotiate, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
"I have my own deadline", he told reporters at the White House shortly before his meeting with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.
Trump said he believes Russian President Vladimir Putin will listen to him on the issue of stopping strikes on Ukraine, after earlier today he called on his Russian counterpart in a post on his social network "Truth Social" to stop the attacks.
Shortly afterwards, as he entered the White House with the Norwegian prime minister, Trump was asked by a reporter if he thought Putin would listen to him. "I think so," Trump replied.
