European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen welcomed US President Donald Trump's decision to pause the application of reciprocal tariffs. This was reported by „Reuters“, citing her words, News.bg reports.
„Clear and predictable conditions are essential for the functioning of international trade and supply chains“, von der Leyen wrote in a post on the social platform X (formerly Twitter).
She stressed that tariffs are taxes that harm both businesses and consumers. „That is why I have consistently advocated for a tariff-free trade agreement between the European Union and the United States – zero for zero“, she added.
The pause announced by Washington came in response to the decision of EU member states, who earlier on Wednesday voted in favor of a proposal by the European Commission to introduce trade retaliation measures against the United States. The package includes 25 percent tariffs on a wide range of American exports worth a total of about 22.1 billion euros.
