The most expensive Easter in 30 years - 1

Romanians will welcome the most expensive Easter in 30 years, warn economists in the country and add that traditional products for the festive table have increased in price by between 10 and 30 percent. As the main reason, they point to inflation, which reached twice the average for the European Union and increased the prices of traditional Easter foods, Romanian media reported, quoted by BTA.

Farmers and traders argue with rising production costs. The prices of seeds, agricultural machinery, electricity and gas have doubled.

Because of all this, our northern neighbors are recalculating their budgets for the Easter table. Some consumers are forced to reduce the amount of products they buy, or even give up meat dishes.

Kozunak, cheese, margarine, seasonal fruits and vegetables are more expensive. For example, one kilogram of cheese costs the same as a kilogram of lamb in the markets in Suceava, RomaniaTV reports in its report on the subject. Green onions, parsley and dill vary between two and three lei (0.80 cents and 1.20 leva) and for a bundle, while a fresh lettuce leaf can cost six lei (2.4 leva). A kilogram of kozunak costs an average of 100 lei (40 leva).

A study conducted by a Romanian bank and cited by Ajepress shows that Romanians spend an average of 800 lei (320 leva) for Easter. Over 900 lei (360 leva) is the budget for families with children.

At the same time, four out of ten Romanians who spend over 1,000 lei (400 leva) prefer to spend Easter in a restaurant, on vacation in the country or abroad.
