Official: Zelensky dismisses Sumy regional governor after Russian strike on city center - 1

Volodymyr Zelensky has issued a decree dismissing Sumy regional governor Vladimir Artyukh.

The dismissal came against the backdrop of the Russian attack on the center of the regional city of Sumy on April 13.

According to Moscow, the attack was against a "legitimate military target" because the place where a meeting of the command staff of the Ukrainian armed forces was being held was hit. Kiev, for its part, denied this and announced that the strikes were directed at civilian targets.

Moscow claims that two "Iskander-M" missiles killed more than 60 Ukrainian servicemen. Verkhovna Rada deputy Maryana Bezugla said the explosion occurred at a place where the military had gathered for an awards ceremony.

According to Kiev, 35 people were killed, including two children, and 117 were injured - 15 of them children.

On Monday, Artyukh, in a comment to the publication "Obshchestvennoe", said that he was not the organizer of the event, but representatives of the Ukrainian authorities in the Sumy region indicated that it was Artyukh who sent the invitations. Konotop Mayor Artyom Seminykhin blamed Artyukh for the incident, calling on him and the head of the regional department of the Security Service of Ukraine to resign.

The regional governor's dismissal comes after he submitted an application for resignation. His place will be taken by Oleg Grigorov.

Zelensky also dismissed Roman Mrochko, head of the Kherson city administration.
