China condemned today the "irresponsible remarks" of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky after he stated that Beijing was aware of the participation of Chinese citizens in military operations on the side of Russia. This was reported by the "Agence France-Presse" agency, BTA reports.
A spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry stressed that China has always insisted that its citizens refrain from traveling to areas of armed conflict.
“We advise the affected countries not to make irresponsible statements“, the Ministry representative added, calling for a “sober view“ on China's role in the Ukrainian crisis.
His remarks came in response to Volodymyr Zelensky's remarks the previous day. The Ukrainian president said that the country's intelligence services had information about 155 Chinese citizens fighting in the ranks of the Russian army against Ukraine.
