Israel considers the recognition of Palestinian statehood by other countries in the current situation to be "a reward for terror", said Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar. At the same time, he expressed the opinion that in the case of the Palestinians it is a "fictional state".

"Unilateral recognition" of the fictional Palestinian state by any country, in the reality that we all know, would be a reward for terror and support for Hamas. Such actions will not bring peace, security and stability to our region closer, but on the contrary, will only push them further away,” said Saar, whose statements were released by the press service of the Israeli Foreign Ministry.

On April 9, French President Emmanuel Macron said that Paris could recognize Palestinian statehood in June. The French leader noted that this could happen during a joint conference with the participation of representatives of Saudi Arabia.

In 2024, in light of the deteriorating situation in the Middle East, the authorities of Ireland, Spain and Norway announced that they recognized Palestine. Israel responded by recalling its ambassadors from Dublin, Madrid and Oslo for consultations. At the same time, the heads of diplomatic missions of Ireland, Spain and Norway were summoned to the Foreign Ministry of the Jewish state.

In total, the state of Palestine is recognized by 148 UN member states. There are Palestinian embassies and permanent missions in 95 countries around the world.
