China is increasing additional tariffs on US goods to 125%, the Tariff and Classification Committee of the State Council of China announced on its website.

“The tariff rate will be adjusted from 84 percent to 125 percent from April 12, 2025“, the publication said.

It stressed that the unusually high US tariffs on China seriously violate international trade rules, contradict basic economic laws and common sense, and constitute an act of intimidation and coercion.

Last week, the US imposed 54% tariffs on China, and Beijing responded by imposing 34% tariffs on US goods. Washington, in turn, raised the rate to 104 percent, and China to 84. On Wednesday, Trump announced an increase in tariffs on China to 125 percent, and on Thursday to 145 percent.

On the evening of April 2, the American leader announced the introduction of retaliatory tariffs on imports from other countries. The basic minimum rate is ten percent, but for each country the tariff will be differentiated according to the charging of companies importing American goods.

On April 9, Trump announced that the United States had postponed the new tariffs for more than 75 countries for 90 days.

According to Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, the US move to increase US tariffs on goods from China is groundless. According to him, these measures are damaging global markets and the reputation of the leadership in Washington. Wang Yi warned of a strong response if the United States does not stop the economic pressure on the country.
