The new version of the agreement between the United States and Ukraine on underground resources does not contain any guarantees for the security of Kiev, writes the New York Times.
The newspaper reports that a Ukrainian delegation has visited the United States for another round of technical negotiations on the agreement on minerals. The Ukrainian delegation was led by Deputy Economy Minister Taras Kachka, who is responsible for trade, and also included representatives of the economy and justice ministries.
The NYT reports that the new draft repeats all the strict conditions that Washington had previously set:
- Ukraine must repay the United States the billions it received in military and financial aid during the war
- Ukraine must transfer half of its profits from the development of natural resources to a fund controlled by the United States
- The United States insists on taking all the profits from the fund until Ukraine repays all the aid it received during the war, plus 4% annual interest
- The fund receives priority rights to develop mineral deposits and invest in infrastructure projects in Ukraine.
