The decision to confirm Ukraine's irreversible path to NATO membership, taken at the Washington summit in 2024, remains in force, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said in an interview with the Ukrainian TV channel "Mi-Ukraine", quoted by Ukrinform, BTA reported.
Rutte stated that Ukraine's path to NATO is irreversible, emphasizing that this decision is a result of the Washington summit and remains unchanged.
Rutte noted that although it was stated that Ukraine would eventually join NATO, there was never a guarantee that this would be linked to a peace agreement. He also stressed that NATO's goal is to secure lasting peace for Ukraine, not simply freeze the conflict.
The coalition of the willing, including Western partners, remains key to Ukraine's security guarantees, Ukrinform reports.
