The Russian Defense Ministry said today that its forces have taken control of the village of Kalinovo in the Donetsk region, Reuters reported, BTA reported.
The information has not yet been confirmed by sources on the battlefield.
"Active actions by units of the Southern Group of Forces liberated the village of Kalinovo", the Russian ministry said in a statement, quoted by TASS. There is no comment on the matter from Ukraine at the moment.
Earlier today, the Ukrainian parliament extended martial law until August, postponing elections that the United States and Russia are calling for, Reuters reported, citing lawmakers.
The decision was made by a majority of 357 deputies, given Russia's ongoing war in Ukraine. This allows the country to continue mobilizing troops and delaying elections.
President Volodymyr Zelensky has come under pressure to call elections from US President Donald Trump, who has called him a dictator - criticism that has led Ukrainians to rally behind Zelensky and boosted his approval ratings.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly questioned Zelensky's legitimacy after his term officially expires in 2024. However, under Ukrainian law, elections cannot be held while martial law is in effect.
