Russia has asked the United States to allow it to buy Boeing planes using billions of dollars in frozen state assets if a ceasefire is agreed in Ukraine, a source in Moscow said, quoted by Bloomberg.

The agency notes that this offer is not a condition for a ceasefire agreement, but Russia understands that frozen funds cannot be used to buy planes without a ceasefire.

The deal, which would allow the purchase of the planes, could be part of sanctions relief if the fighting stops, Bloomberg reported.

National Security Council spokesman Brian Hughes confirmed to Bloomberg that "The United States will not discuss any economic commitments until a truce".

The purchase of new Boeings from Russia could partially solve the problem of the aging fleet of Russian airlines and would benefit the corporation, which could find itself in a rather difficult situation due to the trade war started by the United States.

The United States accounts for only a small part of the frozen Russian assets, The Bell notes, and according to various estimates they amount to about $ 5-7 billion. This amount is enough to purchase several dozen Boeing medium-range aircraft.
