The Kyiv city administration has declared April 25 a Day of Mourning in memory of the victims of the massive Russian attack on the capital on the night of April 24, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko announced on his Telegram channel, FOCUS reported.

"April 25 has been declared a Day of Mourning in Kiev. In memory of the victims of the massive enemy attack on the capital", the publication states, Ukrinform reports.

The Russians attacked Kiev with drones and missiles on the night of April 24. Fires broke out in several areas.

12 people have been confirmed dead and over 70 injured.

"Russia is believed to have used a North Korean ballistic missile in the attack on the city" said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, quoted by DPA and BTA.

"If it is confirmed that the missile was manufactured in North Korea, this will serve as yet another piece of evidence of the criminal alliance between Russia and Pyongyang," Zelensky wrote on "Telegram".

Ukrainian intelligence services are currently checking the details, and the origin of the missile has not yet been confirmed.

The combined drone and missile attack hit the Ukrainian capital early in the morning, with local authorities saying at least 12 people were killed and about 90 wounded. Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko said at least six children were among the dead.

Zelensky added that Russian forces had tried to use massive air strikes as cover for intensified ground attacks, but they were repelled, Reuters notes.

"The Russians are actually tried to advance by land under the cover of their massive air strikes," Zelensky said on Telegram, citing a report by senior commander Oleksandr Syrsky.

"While our forces concentrated as much as possible on defense against missiles and drones, the Russians continued with intensified ground attacks. But they were repulsed in a dignified manner," the Ukrainian president noted.

Earlier this year, South Korea's military leadership said that North Korea had sent thousands of soldiers to Russia to fight in the war in Ukraine, DPA recalls.
