Russian officials have rejected some aspects of Trump's announced peace plans.
This is noted in the daily analysis of the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
The United States recently presented a seven-point proposal to end the war in Ukraine, in which Washington would recognize Crimea as part of Russia and allow Russian forces to continue occupying significant parts of southern and eastern Ukraine.
The information available about the content of the White House proposal suggests that it marks a sudden and significant change in the Trump administration's strategy for ending the war in Ukraine.
Ukrainian officials have confirmed that the authorities in Kiev remain committed to the United States' proposal from March 2025. for a complete ceasefire as part of efforts to achieve lasting peace.
On April 23, the Speaker of the Federation Council of Russia, Valentina Matvienko, stated that Russia "will never participate" in negotiations discussing the possible deployment of European troops in Ukraine, and that such a deployment is "unacceptable" for Russia, regardless of whether the peacekeeping forces will be deployed within NATO or under another "flag".
This is a change in Russian policy.
Weeks ago, Vladimir Putin himself hinted that he was ready to accept the deployment of blue helmets under a UN mandate.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov gave an interview to the French magazine "Poin", published on April 23, in which he similarly rejected the prospect of a European peacekeeping force in Ukraine.
Peskov said that Russia had rejected the full ceasefire previously proposed by Trump because the truce did not meet all of Russia's demands, including that Ukraine cede the entire Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhia regions - all of which Russia has illegally declared annexed.
Peskov argued that the entire territory of these four regions is "enshrined in our [Russian] constitution as an integral part of Russia" and that "the war will end immediately" if Ukraine withdraws from these areas.
Russian state and pro-Kremlin media outlets carried Peskov's statements, as well as statements by other pro-Kremlin spokesmen, who called on Russia to refuse to cede any part of the four Ukrainian regions included in the Russian constitution - in violation of international law and numerous treaties that Russia has previously signed with Ukraine.
Ukrainian forces are believed to have carried out a drone strike on the "Alabuga" special economic zone (SEZ) in the Republic of Tatarstan, where Russia assembles Iranian-supplied "Shahed" drones.
Russia continues to use chemical weapons against Ukrainian forces and civilians in violation of the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC), to which Russia is a signatory.
Ukrainian forces have recently advanced near Borova and Toretsk. Russian forces have recently advanced in the Kursk region and near Toretsk, Pokrovsk, and Kurakhove.
