The Ministry of Finance has worked actively on the key priorities of the government during the first 100 days of the Zhelyazkov cabinet, reported Finance Minister Temenuzhka Petkova.
According to the information presented, the most important achievement for this period is the adoption of the Law on the State Budget of the Republic of Bulgaria for 2025. "After hard work, the Ministry of Finance proposed to the deputies a budget with a set deficit of 3% of GDP, indexation of pensions, increasing income in the public sector, providing resources for the investment program of municipalities and payment of unpaid expenses from past years," Petkova pointed out.
Another emphasis in the report is the preparation for entering the eurozone. After Bulgaria fulfilled the numerical criteria for membership on February 25, 2025, together with the Governor of the Bulgarian National Bank Dimitar Radev, the Ministry sent a request to the European Commission and the European Central Bank to prepare extraordinary convergence reports. They are expected to be published on June 4, 2025.
The information campaign for the introduction of the euro is also underway, with video and radio clips already being broadcast on national television and radio stations promoting the advantages and benefits of the new currency.
The Government has approved the National Medium-Term Fiscal and Structural Plan of the Republic of Bulgaria for the period 2025-2028, which outlines the vision for fiscal policy, structural reforms and investments in the medium term.
Minister Petkova added that the National Revenue Agency and the "Customs" Agency are working hard to increase the collection of budget revenues and are implementing a package of measures to combat the shadow economy.
