White House special envoy Steve Witkoff arrived in Moscow today, where he is expected to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Reuters reported, citing the Russian news agency Interfax, BTA reported.
The agency notes that Witkoff is emerging as Washington's key interlocutor with Putin, as US President Donald Trump pushes for an agreement to end the war in Ukraine. The envoy has already held three long personal meetings with the Kremlin leader.
His current visit to Moscow takes place a day after Trump criticized Russian missile and drone strikes against Kiev, which killed at least 12 people. The president wrote on social media “Vladimir, stop!“.
At the same time, the US president said that significant progress has been made in the peace talks.
“The next few days will be very important. Meetings are taking place right now. I think we will make a deal. I think we are getting closer“, he told reporters yesterday.
