The US and US President Donald Trump are “sieging” Turkey politically, said the leader of the opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) Özgür Özel in an interview with Euronews Turkey, commenting on the developments in the Gaza Strip, Syria and Cyprus, BTA reported.
During his speech, Özel said that “he knows that before the arrest of Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu on March 19, the administration of Turkish President Erdogan coordinated its actions with the administration of US President Trump and received approval“.
“We must also take into account the fact that Trump wants to protect the hydrocarbon deposits near Gaza, as he knows that they can ensure the needs of Europe for the next 100 years. Currently, Israel, the US and the UK are playing their own game in Syria, but Turkey also has its role there. The US and Israel are also playing their game in Gaza, in which they give Turkey a silent role,“ Özel also said, emphasizing that the US protects the interests of Greece and the Republic of Cyprus, but not those of Turkey.
At the same time, Özel noted that the US has asked Turkey to isolate Iran in exchange for political and economic support.
At the end of his speech, Özel said that “the circle around Turkey is getting narrower and narrower. They (the US and Trump) will not come and take over Turkey, but they are “besieging“ it politically“.
