Bugatti CEO Matteo Rimac reiterated his support for internal combustion engines (ICEs) at the FT Future of the Car Summit. Rimac is unfazed by potential bans on the production of these engines after 2035, stating that Bugatti will continue to make them even if it means being fined. He even floated the idea of installing private synthetic fuel fuel stations in customers' homes.

This position stands out at a time when the automotive industry is moving towards electrification. However, Rimac, who just unveiled Bugatti's powerful new V16 engine, isn't ready to give up petrol. He reported that at the summit, quoted by AutoExpress as saying that they see no reason to stop making these cars as they have invested in a new engine.

Rimac acknowledges the potential penalties for producing CNG cars after the deadline, but doesn't seem too concerned. To address the problem of fewer gas stations in a future dominated by electric cars, he proposes a solution: synthetic fuel home gas stations for Bugatti owners. That's not entirely unrealistic - companies already offer in-home refueling services, and with the rise of home EV charging, Rimac's vision could represent a future where both electric and petrol cars co-exist.
