The unreleased Audi RS3 "broke" a record at the "Ring" (VIDEO) - 1

The battle for supremacy in the compact class at the legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife, also known as the "Green Hell", just got a new chapter. Last year, the BMW M2 triumphantly won the record with a lap time of 7 minutes and 38.71 seconds. This reign was short-lived, however, as Audi took the crown with the new RS3.

Still wearing camouflage that hints at its upcoming unveiling, the RS3 obliterated the previous record with a lap time of 7 minutes 33.12 seconds - a stunning five second improvement. Audi Sport racing and development driver Frank Stipler drove the powerful RS3 around the challenging track, demonstrating both the car's capabilities and his own driving prowess.

Behind this record achievement lies a combination of several factors. Stipler's skills behind the wheel are undeniable, but the RS3 itself is equipped with a number of performance-enhancing features. Sticky Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R semi-slick tires provided exceptional traction and ceramic brakes ensured fade-resistant stopping power. Audi engineers have also improved the car's handling with stiffer adaptive suspension and a retuned chassis for optimal track performance.

Interestingly, although the upcoming S3 boasts increased power, the RS3 used at this record time features a familiar version of the 2.5 TFSI engine generating 395 horsepower.
