Ford is preparing to revive the iconic Boss name for its Mustang model. According to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, the company has filed for the trademark Boss.
The Boss model name will be used to create a powerful car suitable for both the road and the track. The new Boss will be an addition to the seventh generation Mustang, which already includes the tuned Dark Horse and GTD versions.
The Boss nameplate has previously been used on sports versions of the Mustang, starting in 1969 with the release of the Boss 302 model, created to certify Ford's participation in Trans Am racing.
The last appearance of the Boss dates back to 2012, when a refreshed version of the Boss 302 was released. Today, Ford is creating a new car that will occupy a niche between the Mustang Dark Horse and the exclusive GTD.
In addition, the European trademark of the Dark Horse Boss hints at an even more powerful version of the track car. Details about technical specifications and a release date have not yet been revealed.
