Hundreds of electric Jaguars sent to the car morgue - 1

The Jaguar I-Pace electric crossovers were the subject of a large-scale recall, with some of them ending up in landfills. And this despite the fact that in 2019 the model became the winner of two competitions at once - "European Car of the Year" and "World Car of the Year".

Dozens of Jaguar I-Paces are waiting to be scrapped at the car morgue in the United Kingdom. The electric cars are arranged in several levels on special stands. They have a great appearance and almost zero mileage.

But due to problems with the batteries, the company made an extremely drastic decision - recall and disposal. No repair is planned. The view is very depressing, considering how innovative these electric cars were considered.

It is noted that globally Jaguar has bought back several thousand I-Pace crossovers from owners and intends to send them to the press. In the US alone, almost 2,800 cars of this model are awaiting disposal. Owners were paid compensation for the purchased electric cars, and were also offered a replacement with other models.

As already noted, the reason for the recall is the batteries. Jaguar buys them from LG. These batteries are prone to overheating with prolonged use and can catch fire. Jaguar tried to fix software errors to eliminate the risk of spontaneous combustion, but none of the steps taken gave a positive result. Recall that the Jaguar I-Pace is equipped with a 90 kWh battery, which provides the crossover with a range of up to 470 km on a single charge.
