The Federal Office for Logistics and Mobility (BALM) in Germany has launched a new generation of emergency vehicles on the roads. They check the condition of trucks while they are moving, using special vans with the help of sensors and software.
With the help of sensors and measuring devices installed in the emergency vehicles, inspectors from this service are now monitoring freight traffic on the highways. If there is anything suspicious, BALM employees will remove the vehicles from the road and conduct a more detailed inspection.
From now on, this digital traffic control using the latest sensor technology will gradually be launched throughout the country. On February 13, BALM announced on its website the introduction of digital remote control using an innovative monitoring method.
With sensors and electronic interrogations installed in the vans, BALM can now perform a significant part of its task of monitoring vehicle movements.
Simply put, the equipment in the patrol inspection van establishes radio frequency contact with the truck's on-board system and reads all data. During the journey, key areas of monitoring are related to driving and rest rules, the tachograph, weight and dimensions of the vehicle are checked using digital interfaces.
